Taking Risks – I’m In A Band

When I started my photography it was a risk… a calculated one, but a risk just the same. I was worried about a lot of things when I started: Would anyone want to hire me? Would people like my photographic style? Even if they do, will they want to pay me for it?

But, it was a calculated risk. I had training in both photography and business. I’d done my homework, started out small and really worked harder than I ever had at anything else. And, I have to say, it turned out pretty well for me. My business is going in a great direction and, more than anything, I have met some amazing people filled with so much love along the way who continue to inspire me. Whose lives I was able to touch and whose love stories and personal stories touched mine.So now I’m taking another risk… this one maybe not so calculated. I’m in a band. A good one! (I think so, at least.) We’re called Nightfilm. We make music we like to call goth dream pop. Inspired by artists like The Cure, AFIStiu Nu StiuU2, Prayers and so many other artists. It’s a project my husband, Alec, and I have been working on for over a year and I’m so excited/nervous to be able to tell you about it.

I’m not the most outgoing person, but I’m really putting it all out there with this. I’m singing… in front of people! I had a lot of the same worries with this project I had when starting my business: Would anyone want to listen to me sing? Will they like it? Will they actually want to download a song… our song?

But I’m throwing caution to the wind or really I already did. We released a music video for our first single: Identity Crisis

I filmed the whole thing with the help of my amazing husband and a group of wonderful friends. I’m really proud of what we accomplished and it sparked a love of filmmaking within the both of us that I think we’re going to pursue.

Music has always been Alec’s thing, but there is something so wonderful and fulfilling about us sharing our passions and doing them together. Now he photographs with me and I get to sing with him. And together we get to make music videos, combining all of our passions into one. I’m pretty lucky.

Thanks for reading and listening. I hope you enjoyed our video, our songs and these band photos I took with my trusty tripod and the help of a good friend.

All in all, I think some risks, like this one, are worth taking. What’s the biggest risk you’ve taken? What’s the biggest risk you wish you’d taken? I’d really like to know.

Until next time,

Madeline
